HISTORY OF ST JOHN’S ACADEMY PRIMARY
Shankarpura is famous far and
wide for jasmine cultivation and its fragrance. However, the people of this area
had a desire of having its own English medium school. This dream became a
reality on 1st June 1988 through the establishment of St. John’s
Academy. The formal inaugural and blessing ceremony of this ‘center of
knowledge’ took place on 12th July 1998 in the gracious presence of Most
Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, then Bishop of the Diocese of Mangalore. The
journey thus started has now at the threshold of its silver jubilee year.
The small beginnings of this
school, with 35 children and 4 teachers, today have grown to a considerable level.
At present the school has the strength of 480 with teaching and non-teaching
staff. A tiny seed sown 25 years ago has now become a tree and imparts quality
and value-based education to the children of this area.
From the start till now the
various correspondents have immensely contributed to the growth, progress, and
the welfare of this school. Rev. Fr Vincent Monterio (1998-2002) was
instrumental for the beginning of this school. Rev. Fr Alexander Lobo
(2002-2007), an educationist, tried to improve the standards and infrastructure
of the institute. During the time of Rev. Fr Harold C. DSouza (2007-2010) Rev. Fr
Leslie C. D’Souza (2010-2017) worked assiduously and made great efforts to
develop a good rapport between the parents and the students and by improving
the transport facility to the students. Rev. Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves (2017-2023)
too took great interest in further developments and gave able leadership during
the difficult time of Covid pandemic. Now, under the guidance of Rev. Fr Prakash
Anil Castelino is the Joint Secretary of St John’s Academy is all set to mark its
silver moments.
Along with the correspondents,
it is worth mentioning and to remember in gratitude the hard work and efforts
put in by different Principals and in charges for the well being of this
establishment. Mrs Ida Cornelio steered this school from its inception till her
retirement in 2017, with great care and zeal. Sr Winnie DSouza & Sr Juliana
Lasrado too have given their valuable service and put in their efforts for its
development. At present Sr Saritha DSouza heads the primary division.
At present the school is run
and managed by Catholic Educational Society of Udupi Diocese (CESU) Most Rev.
Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo Bishop of Udupi Diocese is the President, Rev. Msgr
Ferdinand Gonsalves is the Vice President, Very Rev. Fr Vincent Crasta is the
Secretary.
At threshold of the silver
jubilee, we thank the generous support and cooperation which we have received
all these years from the part of the parents, donors, and well-wishers. With
the dedicated efforts of our present teaching and non-teaching staff, we are confident
and determined to ensure a qualitative and all-round education for our students
and the mission of making them noble and responsible citizens of our country.
